The People Who Make Disciple Possible
Justin Lonas - Editor
Justin, as part of his capacity as communications manager for AMG International, oversees content, directs distribution and marketing, and handles customer service for Disciple. Additionally, he writes editorials, book reviews, and the monthly column "Living out the Living Word". His goal in writing and editing for Disciple is to help readers understand the difference between "doing church" and being followers of Christ. He and his wife Rachel and their three daughters reside in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Ruth Wilson - Copy Editor
Ruth has a sharp eye for typos and volunteers her time to make sure that the Disciple is delivered with the highest standards of grammar. She serves full time as AMG International's development administrator.
Spiros Zodhiates - "Exegetically Speaking"
"Dr. Z" (1922-2009) was the longtime president of AMG International and the founder of Pulpit Helps Magazine (Disciple's print predecessor). His bi-weekly column, is selected from his many writings on the books of the New Testament. He has authored numerous commentaries, often drawing on his background as a Greek to bring to light the nuances of the original language of the New Testament. Zodhiates went home to be with the Lord on October 10, 2009, at the age of 87.
Joe McKeever - "Words to Stand You on Your Feet"
Joe was a Southern Baptist pastor for over 40 years, and retired in 2009 as the director of missions for the Baptist Association of Greater New Orleans. His monthly column flows out of his experiences in the ministry and is focused on encouraging and strengthening those who have followed God's call to faithful service. Our readers, however, probably know him best for his witty cartoons about church life that appear in each issue! He keeps a regular blog at Joemckeever.com.
Erik Christensen - "Followng God"
Erik joined the Disciple family of writers in 2013, picking up the column started by his father-in-law, Wayne Barber. This is fitting, as he has also followed Wayne in the pulpit, serving as the pastor of Hoffmantown Church in Albuquerque, N.M., since 2011. He has previously served churches in Tennessee, Georgia, and Arizona, and was mentored by Spiros Zodhiates during his first pastorate. Erik and his wife Stephanie have been married since 1992 and have 2 children, Hollen and Jonathan.
James Rudy Gray - "Counselor's Corner"
James Rudy Gray is certified as a professional counselor by the National Board for Certified Counselors, and is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. He serves as the editor of The Baptist Courier, the official newspaper of the South Carolina Baptist Convention. His monthly column is designed to shepherd pastors through the often murky waters of counseling their church members with a focus on applying the Word of God to life situations.
David L. Olford - "Points to Ponder"
David, son of legendary evangelist Stephen Olford (1918-2004), teaches expository preaching at Union University's Stephen Olford Center in Memphis, Tennessee. His monthly column provides the backbone of a classic style expository sermon each month, and serves as a model for sermon preparation to others.
Lindsay Terry - "Story behind the Song"
Lindsay is the founder of Forward Leadership Resources and has published numerous books and materials on church growth, Sunday school, and leadership. His passion is for music, particularly the great songs of the faith. Each month, his column presents the backstory of a well-known hymn or praise song and brings out a fuller understanding of the power of music to Christians.
Ted Kyle (a.k.a. "The Old Scot") - "Marks of the Master"
Ted served as managing editor of Pulpit Helps Magazine from 1993-2008, and continued to serve as a volunteer writer until shortly before his passing in April of 2013. He wrote about a wide variety of spiritual matters, but the focus of his monthly column was on the wonders of God's creation and what a closer look at nature can teach us about our great God.
Bernard R. DeRemer - "Church Builders"
Bernard (1920-2014) volunteered for over a decade chronicling the lives of great believers of past ages for the spiritual encouragement of today's Christians.
